The Rebus extra-heavy Oxford Oval signet ring has become the byword for understated luxury. Coupled with its beautifully proportioned and elegant shape, the paler shade of 9ct gold perfectly sets off even the most intricately detailed crest or monogram engraved by our award winning team of hand engravers.
Of the three carats of gold we offer, 9ct (375 parts of gold per thousand) has the lowest gold content. As a result, it is the toughest of the three – the higher the gold content, the softer the metal. We would recommend 9ct gold if you’re very active and your hands take a lot of wear and tear. Yellow gold, the element’s natural colour, is by far the most traditional colour for signet rings. Yellow gold is usually alloyed with copper and silver to strengthen it and give the jewellery longevity. The shade of the gold depends on its gold content and 18 carat gold has a richer yellow colour than the paler 9 carat gold.
Rebus Oxford Oval signets are available in five face sizes to suit the very largest to the smallest hands. The 14mm x 12mm face size is by far our bestselling gentleman’s signet ring. Assuming that the signet ring will be worn on the little finger, the 18mm x 14mm oval or 16mm x 13mm oval suits hands that are larger or heavier set. The 13mm x 11mm is our bestselling ladies’ signet but will look just as striking on a slender gent’s hand. For smaller hands, we have the 11mm x 9mm signet ring. If you’d like to make a real statement with your ring, our largest size, the 18mm x 14mm, is the perfect choice.

Deep seal engraving
Traditional deep seal engraving is the most popular method of engraving signet rings. We create your design by carving deeply into the metal, hand engraving the design in reverse.
Once the seal engraving is completed, we use the engraved signet ring to produce a 3d wax impression - the seal. Your ring will arrive presented in a beautiful gift box, with an encapsulated impression of your design and a wax taper to make your own seals. If you would prefer for us to engrave your design as it is seen on paper, i.e. not in reverse, please let us know by using the comment box found in your shopping bag. read less
Surface cut engraving
As with seal engraving, surface engraving is produced by hand, using handheld gravers. In fact, it's the same technique used by traditional bank note engravers.
Unlike seal engraving, we don't carve deep into the metal - instead, we create the design by cutting hundreds of lines of varying widths and depths until the design comes to life. This method is ideal for cufflinks and it also looks effective on signet rings, but does not have the same longevity as seal engraving. read less
