The Rebus International Order Guide

Rebus is lucky enough to work with customers from all over the world, and we appreciate that without being able to physically try on our jewellery pieces, you want to make a fully informed decision on a piece that you will treasure for years to come.

With this in mind, we have created a comprehensive step-by-step guide to placing an order with us, with the aim of making sure you are fully informed along the way.

If you have any questions, you can contact the team either via email, telephone, or via an instant messaging system available through our website, which you can find in the bottom right-hand corner of any page labeled ‘Can We Help?’.

To provide a more visual experience for your enquiry, we can also arrange a Skype consultation to show you samples from the collection in person.

Step One – Requesting a Welcome Pack

Our Welcome Packs provide information about the two different types of hand-engraving to choose from for your design – traditional deep seal engraving and surface engraving.

They also include information about the heritage of the brand, the history of hand engraving techniques, a selection of to scale signet ring face sizes and a plastic finger sizer to measure your ring size.

Once received, to use the plastic finger sizer, thread the pointed end through the small gap and fasten around the desired finger until the sizer is tight but comfortable. The letter marked on the outside will indicate the size of ring required.

You can also request a lookbook to view the Rebus collection in colour.

Step Two – Confirming your finger size; ordering a bronze replica signet ring

For those of you who are interested in a signet ring, once you have either measured your finger with the plastic sizer , or have been sized by your local jeweller (we always recommend this as the most accurate method), the next step is deciding which face size and shape you prefer.

To help with your decision, Rebus can create a replica ring in most face shapes for you to try on. The replicas are available in one standard finger size, or you can request a bespoke one to be made in your finger size. All replica rings will be sent with a Welcome Pack.

The price of the replica (minus any extra sizing charges) is deductible from your final order and Rebus will cover the shipping and duties charges to send it to you.

The production lead-time depends on which shape you order, but the average turnaround time is 1-2 weeks.

Step Three – Choosing your design

If you have found an initial or monogram style, or your family crest in our database in the ‘Personalise’ section of our website, you will be able to order your jewellery piece online.

For those of you who have an existing wax impression in the family, it is highly recommended that this is sent to us, as each hand engraver has their own style, no two signet ring engravings will ever be exactly the same. An existing impression is used by the engraver as an artwork and allows them to match the different levels of depth and detail as much as possible. All wax impressions sent to us will be used with great care and will be returned once the ring has been completed.

Many people do not have a family crest or wax impression, and this is not a problem. We can work from images (no photographs) to create your piece. You can email your image as a JPEG or PDF to the Sales team and they will make sure that the level of detail and shape of the design is suitable for the ring shape and face size that you have chosen.

Rebus can also create a bespoke design of your choice and our artists will draw the artwork on a ring template for you to approve. All you need to do is provide the sales team with a brief of the elements you would like the artist to include and provide images of designs you have seen if applicable.

The Rebus Pinterest and Instagram pages are an excellent source of inspiration, as they showcase previous pieces that we have crafted and engraved.

The design fees range from £100 - £150 depending of the depth of detail and include one revision free of charge. Any revisions thereafter would be £25 each.

As an additional service, our artists can also create beautiful watercolours of your designs for you to frame and keep as a treasured memento, or present to a loved one as an extra special gift. Prices start at £200 and framing is not included.

Step Four – Payment process

To proceed with your order, we just require a 50% deposit to get started, and you can either make payment via an online link that we send to you, or over the phone.

Once completed, the balance will need settling before we can ship your order.

Step Five – Production lead-time and delivery information

As our pieces are crafted and engraved by hand with love and attention to detail, the lead-times vary of the type of jewellery and engraving you have ordered and also the time of year, as we tend to have a long, eager waiting list around the holidays.

Once we have an idea of what you are looking for, we can provide an accurate quote on lead-time and cost.

To keep you up to date with the progress of your signet ring, in progress photographs will be sent to you, showing your ring during the engraving process – images of the completed piece will also be sent before shipping.

Once the balance of the order has been settled, Rebus ships internationally free of charge, using an insured courier service with either DHL or FedEx. All orders outside of the EU will be charged VAT free, however taxes and duties will be charged by customs once reaching your country and are not refundable.

When ordering online from the USA, shipping, tax and import duty is covered by Rebus.

Once shipped, tracking information will be sent to you via email.
