The lustrous shine of 14ct yellow gold framing a stone set Rebus signet ring makes for a truly elegant heritage piece. The classic shape and high quality of the setting are the perfect blank canvas for your bespoke hand engraved design. As with all Rebus stone set rings it has solid back, giving the stones the strength and stability they need to last a lifetime.
14ct gold (585 parts of gold per thousand) is a popular choice of gold for a signet ring, as over half of it is pure gold and it is still very durable. The heavy weight Rebus signet rings in 9ct, 14ct or 18ct gold will last a lifetime. Yellow gold, the element's natural colour, is by far the most traditional colour for signet rings. Yellow gold is usually alloyed with copper and silver to strengthen it and give the jewellery longevity. The shade of the gold depends on its gold content and 18 carat gold has a richer yellow colour than the paler 9 carat gold.
Archaeology tells us that Lapis Lazuli was highly cherished by the cultures of ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome. The stone is a deep blue opaque gemstone that’s still popular today and one of the most highly sought after opaque gemstones in the world, with its sparkling gold specks of Pyrite. It’s also a relatively soft and porous stone, we always recommend that wearers take extra care with a Lapis Lazuli ring, protecting it from chemicals and cleaning solvents. Famed for its vibrant blue colour, until the nineteenth century, Lapis lazuli was pulverized to make a durable pigment called ultramarine, which was used extensively to produce the intense blue of many of the world’s most famous oil paintings.
The Medium (14mm x 12mm face size) is by far our best-selling gentleman's signet ring. The Large (16mm x 13mm face size) suits hands that are larger or heavier set. The Small (13mm x 11mm) is our best-selling ladies' signet but will feel just as comfortable on a slender gentleman's hand. These measurements refer to the overall face size, rather than just the stone.
Deep seal engraving
Traditional deep seal engraving is the most popular method of engraving signet rings. We create your design by carving deeply into the metal, hand engraving the design in reverse.
Once the seal engraving is completed, we use the engraved signet ring to produce a 3d wax impression - the seal. Your ring will arrive presented in a beautiful gift box, with an encapsulated impression of your design and a wax taper to make your own seals. If you would prefer for us to engrave your design as it is seen on paper, i.e. not in reverse, please let us know by using the comment box found in your shopping bag. read less

Surface cut engraving
As with seal engraving, surface engraving is produced by hand, using handheld gravers. In fact, it's the same technique used by traditional bank note engravers.
Unlike seal engraving, we don't carve deep into the metal - instead, we create the design by cutting hundreds of lines of varying widths and depths until the design comes to life. This method is ideal for cufflinks and it also looks effective on signet rings, but does not have the same longevity as seal engraving. read less
